Statistics show that married people have a longer life expectancy than unmarried ones. But this isn’t the whole story.
Researchers from the US found these statistics held true regardless of indicators for marital happiness, such as satisfaction and disagreements. But things changed when couples were asked about disputes. Women who said they bottled up feelings when arguing with their husbands were four times likelier to die early.

Men who said home life was disrupted by their wives coming home upset about work were twice as likely to get heart disease. This suggests a couple who row a lot may not be subjecting themselves to harmful stress, unlike couples who don’t argue because they don’t know how to resolve resentments.
