Vitamin A and carotene from the vegetable or animal sources. The animal form is divided between retinol and carotene dehydroretinol while the plant it can be very powerful in four groups – alpha-carotene, beta carotene, gamma-carotene and crypto-carotene. With enough beta-carotene in the body, the body can manufacture its own vitamin A.

Vitamin A deficiency

A deficiency of vitamin A can lead to eye problems with dryness of the conjunctiva and cornea, dry skin and hair, night blindness and poor growth.

Toxicity may occur in some individuals at relatively low dosages and symptoms may include nausea, dizziness, menstrual problems, skin changes and dryness, the itchiness, irritability, vomiting, headaches and use of long term may cause pain of the loss of hair, bone and muscles, headache, liver damage, and increased concentrations of blood lipids.

Pregnant women should take care while a high product of this vitamin may cause birth defects.

Provitamin A – beta-carotene does not cause toxicity.

Enemy of vitamin A

Retinol is destroyed by light, high temperatures and using copper or iron cookware. Vehicles and fruit rich beta carotene should not be soaked in water for long periods, since the food may be lost like that.
Other interesting points

There seems to be toxic to ingest quantities of beta carotene grand – you might however have a slightly orange skin, such as the carotene gets stored on your skin.
Food sources of vitamin A

The liver, milk, egg yolk, carrots, dark green leafy vehicles and yellow fruits are high in vitamin A or beta carotene.
